 The "Dawn Patrol" consists of a small group of hot air balloons that launch in the early morning, before the mass ascentions, to check out wind currents and general conditions. Then, about sunrise, the mass ascention of 500+ balloons begins! If Albuquerque, NM is known for any one event, this would be it. Balloonists from all over the world come to sample the famous "Albuquerque Box" - wind currents that go in one direction near the ground and the opposite direction farther up. This allows the balloons to return to near their launching point and gives a spectacular show to the whole city.

Congrat on the beautiful photo! I tried taking one like that but didn't have a tripod with me at the time and got nothing but fuzz :) Great composition as well!

A beautiful picture, the light in the balloons is very special. Maybe if you had cropped the picture to only include the clear group of balloons in the middle it would have been even more impressive.

Wow, Love the balloons. Night time is the best viewing in my opinion. Like how you caught the city lights too. Really puts a perspective on their size.

Not only is this balloons, but a night shot as well! Really nicely done. I love that they are little spots of color up in the evening sky. Great composition and lighting. Your eye just follows them all the way up to that final one at the top of the photo. Good one.
