Challenge: Greeting Cards (Advanced Editing IV)

This is actually a copy of "The Thinker" on the University of Louisville's campus. It came to mind with this challenge so I went and shot a few photos.

I have mixed feelings about this photograph. I think it fits the challenge really well and I hope I can get some smiles from it, but taken out of context of the challenge and I think it's sort of an uninspired photo. I would like to go back another time and maybe get some shots of students around the statue in hopes of an interesting juxtaposition. I have doubts about the border as well, but I felt it needed a little something like that (it kinda gives it more of a greeting card look).

I used curves to adjust contrast, levels for a little brightness, and channel mixer to convert to black and white. I also used some unsharp mask (maybe too much?) and NeatImage.

Greetings from the critque club.

I think you did well in choosing this subject for your greeting card entry. It immediately says what it means - no guessing or trying to figure out what point you are trying to make.

I like the choice of turning this into a black and white image. It fits with your subject matter. For me, some of the shadowed areas are a bit too dark and I would have liked to have seen it a bit more crisper all around and maybe even just a hint more contrast too.

I like the composition and the unobstrusive background sky. For me, this keeps the focus on your subject.

Overall, well done. I look forward to seeing more of your work. Thank you.

humor is good. Did it take a long time to clean up your model afterwards? Just kidding. it seems a lot of detail seems to be lost to the shadows.

I like how this one looks. The B&W makes this one work. Good job.
