FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB

Hello, Bob,

The lovely lady is really lovely! So is this image.

First impression: This is one of those images that make you smile and think of words such as "magical". The unexpected choice of BW works well here. I say "unexpected" because at least in my mind bubbles are ussually associated with colour. IMHO it meets the challenge just fine.

Light: Excellent. The skin-tones are beautiful. The light bubbles against the dark background are very good. I'm wondering, how did you convert this picture to BW? It must not be a straight conversion to greyscale.

Focus: Very good. The face/hand are nicely in focus, the background is appropriately blurred, the bubbles are in and out, floating. I really like how the bubble that's being formed and the bubble wand show movement over time, and that even though the shutter speed you used wasn't all that slow.

Composition: First, I love the square format for this shot. The thin white mat is very appropriate. Composition overall is excellent, with the exception of the path in the background. It is hard to tell, but the picture might be better if the path were not there (so you have a lot of landscaping to do now!).

Overall: Very good entry to this challenge, and your final score shows it. BTW, about your other picture in your portfolio, "Enjoying a Kiss", that is your wife again, right? I hope that's you with her!

Take care,

Ursula (uabresch)

Simply magical. We wonder, are bubbles actually liquid? Well, they start out as liqid...but....A photo is supposed to grab the eye and the mind and this one does.

What a great picture - you've captured so many bubbles! They look well spaced (not that you can plan the spacing of bubbles...), and the cropping is nicely done.

OK idea. The blur of the blown bubble is OK. Wish the focus was more on the bubbles than the person.

Good one! I like that you captured the motion. Good luck!

Ironically, I just saw a another bubble photo. Darn randomizer.

Again, I concede it's technically on topic, and in fact as you caught the motion of the bubble being blown, possibly a bit more so than the prior example. I like that there's multiple bubbles about; it makes it more interesting. It also works for me in B&W, which is not always the case with B&W photos. Overall I like it.

What a great shot! I give this a 10.
I had thought to try bubbles, but I'm glad I didn't. Mine would have suffered in comparison to yours!! Nice work and good luck. Hope to see this image win this challenge.

Really liked this. The composition, the tight focus on your subject, the expression are all great. The bubble being blown, and the sense of movement/creation/wind that it gives - all of these combine to makethis an excellent photo. Nice!

Gorgeous shot - tones , blurring, composition all spot on - well done! Would've been a 10 for me but for the path in the background that I think distracts a bit from the bubbles. Still, an excellent 9 well earned.

Good control of the blur and good timing. However, I find the path in the background is distracting me from the action.
