It's a good photograph, it would have been really better if you made a crop according to Rule of Thirds. Good luck in the challenge.

I thiink the image would be a lot stronger when placing the girl out of the middle.. (cropping the left side should do it imo)

I like the old timey sense of this. The leading line being slightly curved is interesting and makes your eye undulate to follow it. Her long hair and old timey dress with her books bound with a strap just add to the appeal of it. I wish the tones were a touch deeper, but maybe you blanched it out to give it a sense of old and faded. Nice.
