I very much like that you have gone for something different here. Good job. In my opinion focus could be a little more sharp and the highlights are too hot.
Aloe is such a cool plant to look at... a plant that has the healer inside to fix the cuts from the thorns. I like the lighting here and the level of detail, though I think the DoF should be a touch deeper - just to the branch in the upper right corner would be in focus too.
The DOF on this is short so most of the image is out of focus. For me, it doesn't work as I don't know what to focus on. I think the lighting works to provide depth. The black background contrasts nicely with the green.
