Children are the best of subjects. When they play, they are totally immersed in their own world, and it's not too difficult to get pics that are candid. The only thing that needs anything here is to perhaps crop a little on the right, and then a little off the top to maintain the size format.

Hmm, not sure what you're after as far as how to improve the photo. I think it's a great capture. I love how you've caught him in mid jump. I would not try a much closer crop at all, I think having the people in the background add some context to the shot, the viewer can feel and understand that it is not just a photo of a boy playing, but an actual 'event'. Maybe just enough to get rid of the very small portion of person along the right edge. I would probably play with levels (or whatever your preferred color management techniques) and try to make the colors pop just a little more. I would probably clone out the little red thing in the background behind the boys right arm too.
