Taken near the top of La Manga Pass in Colorado on the way to Chama, NM. All the land around there is open range and the cows roam around all over. I walked into this group and they didn't seem to mind me taking pictures. As soon as my husband got out of the car with our little dog they ran away! I was just hoping to get a good picture of an udder and call it "The Source"; this one was a happy accident.

I grew up on a farm and this picture brought back such wonderful memories; the smell of straw, the sound of the first milk in the bucket, the roughness of the calf's tongue, the sight of the baby nuzzeling the teat. And it took me to the memory of seeing my brother shoot a spray at the cat, who loved the game. I gave you a ten for senses and plus, I love the composition. I keep seeing a bunny in the negative image of the grass and I find that great fun! Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I like the concept but i think the right half isn't very understandable. poss a vertical crop of calf and udder would be better. a little out of focus too.

Perfect capture. Although this moment involved some luck, it deserves a 10.

If this shot were a little more in focus and had a little bit brighter colors- I would put it on my wall-8

Tee hee. Great shot with the tongue and milk coming off. I'm not into technical critiques, but happy to say your shot made me smile after a long day.

Good candid shot. Doesn't seem quite sharp enough

7 - One of 2 7's I have given for 'cows with milk'. Criticism; I do like how you have 'zoomed in' on mostly just the calf and teats but would like to see a slightly different angle. The shadow hides the teats. I like the way the calf is 'licking'. If the shadow were not covering the teats, no tag 'visible' on the ear (difficult I know) and a little more 'vivid' green in the grass, would have made it a better shot in my opinion.

I like the udder's in the background. The cow seems to be enjoying himself.

Wonderful whimsy in the image and the title. There's just something off for me in the composition. And the ear tag detracts. Could you have cloned it out? Just wondering.

nice clear shot...love the "licking my chops" look!

your title lacks originality and the shadows comprimise the shot. you probably should have cropped out the udders and rear legs.

the harsh shadows are distracting IMHO>. 6

i feel that the background is distracting and the focus point is off the face somehow, and seems to be more on the flank of the cow. to some extent, maybe a closer crop to the face and udders might improve this image's punch. 5

a tiny misgiving, but the tag on the ear spoils it (ever so slightly)
