Challenge: Dairy (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Lens: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
Location: Indoors using natural light from patio doors
Date: Aug 20, 2005
Aperture: F11
ISO: ISO 200
Shutter: 800/1

Date Uploaded: Aug 20, 2005

Filled a dish to about half an inch with cream and a little milk to thin out the liquid for a better splash. Used natural light and a touch of bounced flash.

Then just took shot after shot until I got one that I was happy with, I think this was attempt number 43.

Then some cropping, levels and curves adjustments made in PS. Touch of neat image to finish.

Am quite happy with this shot, but would have liked to have burned the strawberry to bring the red out a little. Also would have liked to clone out what looks like a white seed in the middle of the berry - ah well!

A lovely take as the strwberry creates that wall around it. Congratulations on your top five finish.

Of all the pictures like this one I liked this the best. I like the splash and I like the shadow of the splash. I like how the strawberry was in focus and I could see all the seeds. I think you could have made the strawberry a little more red? Hmm. But very nice approach on the challenge even though I saw like 10 of these. =] 10.

The best splash shot in this challenge. Shadows not too distracting as in many other splash shot. Lighting on strawberry is perfect. It looks like you use creme instead of milk; I guess it gives a bit more reaction time.

a tough capture for sure. the shadow is kind of harsh. would have preffered some secondary lighting? to lessen the shadow, and make this a bit more minimalistic.

good luck.

it's probably one of the better splashes, but generally, i really feel the splash is overdone, and i dreaded it before the voting period -- with good reason, i suppose. the timing here is nice. on my screen, however, there's an overall SLIGHT pink toning on what's supposed to be white. to some extent, i find the shadow to be distracting. 5

I really like the angle you have the light at, I think it helps to define the splash a lot. Good placement of the strawberry, maybe if it had been angled more towards the center, with the green pointing towards a corner it might have been a smidge better? Great picture overall.

Now this is a splash shot! Super sharp image. I'm guessing top 10 here, at least!
I would enhance the red and green colors a bit, and brighten up the milk!
Good job - 8

There were two strawberry in cream pictures and I'm afraid the other is superior. The splash capture here isn't bad, but the image is overexposed which leads to less detail or contrast between the splash and background. Your object is in focus, which is nice, and more than many other "milk splash" pics in the challenge. 7.

something i picked up from one of the other entrants is .... it looks like they wet the strawberry before dropping it into the milk/cream...this one looks a bit dry....next time....anyway....great shot....7

awesome splash shot. Probably the best in the challenge. The milk retains its whiteness and the clarity and focus is perfect. Also you avoided the shadows which plague the other images. Excellent work. I really enjoy the empty space showing the calmness of the surrounding milk. Did you use a shallow pan for this image?

Wow. A truly amazing shot. Love the composition and the lighting and saturation are perfect. I can almost taste the cream. If this doesn't win first or second, I'll eat my hat (or that berry)! ;)

two photos slightly different. I think I like the verticle strawberry in the other shot better but this is quite good too. In both cases the instant of capture is excellent. 7
