 This photo was taken on the Franz Joseph Glacier, on the South Island of New Zealand. The glacier can be safely traversed with the aid of a guide, crampons, and some basic knowledge of ice travel. The ice was constantly changing, our guide said this crevasse had only opened up a few days earlier.
