The Franz Joseph Glacier is unique for a few reasons: it is the steepest guided glacier in the world, and is one of the only places in the world where you can be walking on ice, surrounded by rainforest, and still have the ocean visible. The glacier really epitomizes New Zealand’s extreme microclimates.
