 This photo was taken on the South Island of New Zealand on a solo wilderness backpacking trip alongside the East Matukituki River. Mt Aspiring and the Popes Nose are visible in the background. For me, the solace of what it means to by in the backcountry alone is wrapped up in this photo; the mighty mountains in the background, the blue glacial-melt river flowing next to my tent, the power of the Wild.

This picture has a very soothing quality to it. I can only imagine how wonderful it must feel to be out backpacking through such beautiful country.
