Went to the Sarah P. Duke Gardens near Duke University. This was my first visit to the gardens and there is an amazing amount of photo opportunites. I don't remember the name of this plant, but I'll look around for it. Anybody know?

This is a great macro shot, but I would have liked to see a little more DOF on it. However, it is still a great photo. Nice work.

I would have to clssify this a side lighting. The shadow near the base of the flower and the slight shadow from the thorns givwe away the direction the light is coming from. However another classification of lighting could be ambeint lighting. Ambeint lighting would appear to have no direction and would evenly light the entire subject. This type of lighting is commonly used in shooting jewelry and other shiney objects. Ambeint lighting is very usefull fur reducing glare on reflective surfaces. But it does tend to give a bit of a flat two dimintional feel to the photo. Very pretty shot.
