When I look at this picture I do not see 1880, but rather just a patio chair from this era. As for the picture though, I think the skewed angle is slightly distracting and that the little corner of table in frame does not work well.

I notice that the grass is mowed in a direction parallel to the wooden bench.

I think the angle of view here makes it real hard to look at. The table edge does seem to lead you into the chair which is your focal point, but the chair is hard to focus on because there is nothing in the background to support the form of the chair.
