This beautiful tree was bathed by a setting sun, nestled beneath some of Britain's most wonderful terrain.

To me, it was Lord of its manor - a character strong, unique and master of its domain.

When surveying this scene I saw nothing but wonderful texture in the earth, sky and majesty of this specimen.

Edits included numerous layers of hue/saturation and sharpening when in Lab colour mode. The surreal treatment is designed to distract us from normality and to see the subject in a new light,

Peter - don't feel stupid at all! I'm grateful for all the comments and I can see why people would imagine it's naff control of colour - especially in the context of a challenge. If this were simply in my portfolio, it would be questioned less perhaps. Either way, I really don't mind how people interpret it.

Ok sorry it was intended but I still scored it ok so i don't feel so stupid

Very nice, I like how you didn't feel it necessary to go up close and personal on the tree. Interesting colors.

Good luck

something happened to the color I think, the sky appears green and unrealistic but it is a lovely composition.

A beauty in its own right with ideal texture. Personally I would have kept the sky natural.

I really like the object of this photo but the colors just don't seem right- too much post processing maybe? If not this would be one of my favorites

Needs color adjustment or possibly B&W conversion.... nice capture though... 6

Oh! This image pops! The color cast makes it seem like a non terrene landscape...

save for the couple blown out areas in the sky, this is an excellent image!

it looks like you adjusted the saturation and hues too much.

This does a very nice job with texture. The colors on the tree are terrific. If I were to pick nits, I am bothered by the green sky. Because of basic editing, you couldn't selectively edit it, but you might have been able to use Levels or Selective Colors to prevent the color cast. One more minor nit, it feels a bit over sharp. Easy does it with sharpening.

Great composition! The field is a beautiful gold, too bad the sky had to go so gold too. Nice work!

I don´t know about this one, I both love it and hate it. I hate the sky, it is an odd mint green phenomenon that I have never seen myself so that is a big drawback in the shot for me personally. I love the rest of the shot though, the texture and colour on the tree is awesome and the shape is very interesting, looks like the tree has some history and it looks very peaceful, I wouldn´t mind having a picknick under that tree. The brown/green grass complements the tree perfectly and the brown hill in the backround ties it all together. I gave this shot an 8 and I would have given it a perfect 10 if the sky had been a deep blue colour. Great job!

Nice warm tone. Good composition and texture. Not sure if the sky color is natural or the result of editing, but it looks a bit odd. Some clouds has blown highlight which is distracting.

For a basic challenge, this is incredible. I think what really makes this image 10 worthy is the lighting - you got there at the perfect time of day. The sky is a little green but I'm overlooking that as it really isn't that noticible. The texture shines through very well. The POV and composition are excellent. Good luck in the challenge!

I loved the use of color here. It reminds me of a Thomas Moore painting. Very surreal and great texture. 9

This would have been good in B/W...

Very pretty. I see this as having a lot more impact as a B&W. Clarity & focus is good. A touch overexposed on the cloud, but nothing horrible. I think the most immediate detraction is probably the green cast. Once again, B&W would solve that and, IMO, give the photo more impact.

I really like this image, one of the best for sure. The only thing that is a negative about this picture, and it may only be me, is that the sky looks so artificial. But like I said that may only be personal preference, I still have you in my top 5 of the challenge. GL.

Something wrong with the colors here, but this is definitely worth reshooting or Photoshop to get right. I like the photo and textures in it.

I Like the composition and theme but there appears to be a yellow hue especially noticable on the blue of the sky

while I really like the idea here - the sky seems an unnatural color - it has a funny green tint. I would have liked to see a bit more of the tree at the top.

the tones on the trunk and the hill in the backgroundis pleasing and fits the mood. the textture on the tree and the shape of the roots are very interesting and captures my attention. however, the weird sky colour is highly distracting. a softer shade of blue (not cyan) would have made me give you a higher score. anyway, overall a nice shot.

This tree looks like the perfect spot to spend an afternoon reading. Gorgeous all around. The only thing I'm not sure of is the sky color - it seems to point out the somewhat harsh lighting. But overall I think it adds a sort of fantasy touch to the whole shot, and I love it. :o) Great shot!
