 I wish that the tree stood out better against the dark trees, but there's not much I can do about that, at least not in basic editing. To me, this conveys loneliness and isolation more than independence, but of all the photos I've taken, this is the most relevant.

Some minor levels adjustments, hue/saturation adjustments to cyans, and USM.

I have to admit that the pole (whatever it is) is lost in this photo. I really can't tell what it is, so I think I am missing the point you are trying to make.

I like everything about this photograph except the subject. Is it just a stick, or am I missing something? It is indeed "standing alone", but that in itself doesn't say anything about independence to me. Nevertheless, it's a very fine photograph of a most interesting scene (not counting the stick), and very stylishly processed as well. 7

this looks like yellowstone. i think being even closer to the pole would have helped.

The dark horizon takes away from a great Idea. I like how you used the minimalism approach here. Very theme oriented!

Neat shot, good colors, but the stick is a little dark and blends with the forest behind a bit too much.

Really nice composition. I like the warm tones in contrast with the cool ones of the sky. The texture of the ground is interesting. Upon a second look, I'm upping this to an 8.
