Challenge: Independence (Basic Editing III*)
Camera: Fujifilm FinePix S3000

I had skipped a couple of challenges for lack of inspiration, but I was once again bitten by the photo bug, so we went on a little expedition to the Paradise Park Beach (really just tide pools and cliffs). I snapped dozens of unusable pics, but just as I was giving up, and heading back, I spotted this couple, and decided they made the perfect subject.
editing includes:
crop, contrast, desaturation(b/w), rotate to fix slightly tilted horizon, border, save for web.
(alternate titles: escape,freedom,seclusion)

Thanks fot the votes, and great comments everyone!

** Greetings from the Critique Club **

I'm sorry I did not get to vote on this photo as it really is a great shot. I love that it is in B&W - really pulls the viewer into their relaxing moment. The contrast of the water against the shore and rocks is perfect.
There are only two things I would have changed to improve this image - one is to crop out the top 1/3 of the sky. The sky is almost distracting as there is so much of it. The second would be to make the frame thinner - not a lot, but a bit thinner.

Keep up the great shooting

- Linda

Lovely because it meets the challenge and then steals our hearts with its nostalgia feel in B/W. Congratulations on your top ten finish.

beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. I love the clarity, and crisp clean look to this. I would love to mention anything that might make this photo better. There is just nothing, not that I could ever think of anyway, I love it just the way it is.

don't care too much for the border on this one. it's distracting i think, otherwise...great shot! 9

With the exception of the lack of detail in the sky I really like this a whole lot. I love the fact that these two individuals are sitting together - like an intimate escape together from the rest of the world. It reminds me of travelling (which I adore) and of romance (which I adore too) and of the beauty of the earth (oh yes, I adore that too). Nice in black and white. 8

Nice take on the theme! I'm not a big fan of didgital borders but this one works well. Nice use of the rule of 3rds. 8

Great photo! I like the composition and the contrast. There might be a tad too much sky for my taste though...
Well done

Great black and white picture. If only the sky were cooperating as well as everything else was! One of my top picks for this challenge.

This is a great shot. The B&W and the composition and the sharpness are spot on. The only problem is the blown out sky but with the dark rocks below and the basic editing rules, you definately made the best out of a tough situation. 9

Nice contrasts between wavy and smooth, liquid and solid, white and black, life and lifeless. Great framing, nice and daring use of negative space.

Lovely shot! I think it would've been better/fitting if there were only one person instead of two. The borders are a tad thick but that's just my opinion. B&W is a great choice for this picture! Beautiful scene.

I love the way you have handled the light in this shot..the sky and foreground are deeply contrasted...this really allows me to linger with the two people and share the view with them.

This is just a beautiful picture! I love the turbulent water crashing right up against where they are sitting. The black and white was a perfect choice for this.

This is a beautiful and powerful image. Great choice for a B&W. The composition is fantastic and the deep tonal range came through nicely. And best of all....I understand it's link to independence.Good Luck! 9
