i don't think the selective desaturation works here because it makes the tree stand out, and the tree is not really a key element, IMO. that title is scary :/
There are a couple of things going on in this image that are a problem. First and formost, is the shooters face being blocked. Second is cutting the shooter off at the waist. A very good photography teacher once said to me, Never-ever cut anyone off at a joint. Any joint. And I guess the last thing, is the tree in the back-ground. It is colored, while everything else is B&W, and it definately draws, my eye away from the main topics of the picture. I would have like to have seen the rim, the ball and the shorts, selectively colored, but not the tree.
There are some nice attributes to this image, but these problem areas seem to be weighing heavily in my scoring. <5>

Younger generation (color), older court (slight desat). I like what you did here. The tilt of the picture is really throwing me, though. That's my only major problem with this picture. A lesser suggestion: the picture could use some sharpening.
