Clever idea and well executed. I like the fact that it doesn't look set up ... a bit of background clutter, one toothbrush leaning a bit sideways ... makes it seem a more intimate "family" portrait, and therefore more appealing. 7

I don't find your subject matter particularly engaging, but I applaud the creative take on the challenge topic. Rendering this in B&W made this a much stronger photo. The stuff in the background is a little distracting, but the only thing that really needs to go is the corner of the blinds. Good use of DOF.

this is a great idea, I love the concept. But really what we have here is a snapshot of the family bathroom - so how to make it not a snapshot? if you have a window that the sun shines through, put a white sheet over it, and place the cup on a table about three feet away from the window. Then open your aperature to almost as wide as it will go, and shoot from the side of the window into the dark room. Now you have dramatic, diffuse lighting, a lot of contrast against a blurry background, and a great way to communicate "family". You also have the longest comment I ever left, I hope it is helpful.

I came back to this picture and raised my score a point. I do see the family feel to it. In my opinion the light is a bit dim and the focus is not what it could be.

I think this could be a little brighter or more contrasty to bring out the good whites.

I think the DOF and POV are great for this shot. The image as a whole is rather dark and could be improved with greater contrast, maybe moving your white point in levels in PS.

A good shot, but the background is almost too blurred, to the point that it is almost distracting. And the nearer of the bottles, does it have a clear top, or is that a reflection of some sort?

i really like the idea behind it

Just a tad too dark for my liking. Although the dark image may convey a sense of loss. Was there a fourth tooth brush belonging to a fourth person?

closer crop and camera more in line with the subjects instead of from above. other than that, love the idea and use of b&w

I wish the cans of hairspray weren't in the background and it was a tighter shot of the toothbrushes. Maybe a spotlight effect on the contents of the cup might've been a tad more interesting to the eye since the overall tone is kind of dark with little contrast.

Good idea. Something different. Looks like it's time for new toothbrushes, though;)

I love this idea, very creative. The subject is perfect for this challenge. Unfortunately, it is too dark and the composition could be improved. Good try!
