Thank you for everyone's comments. I didn't expect the photo to do quite so badly but am pleased to have generated so many comments! (For the record, there was no PP blur introduced on the photo - all I changed were the colours and contrast slightly and - far from blurring - some sharpening!!)

I definetely agree! This was probably one that most people just did not understand... and after looking at your portfolio, I would say this photo is absolutely one at the top!

Meadow's final placement in this particular popularity poll underscores the higher representation of illustrative conscious eyes (magazines, calendars, etc.) in contrast to artistic interpretive eyes. I feel worldwide, society now has more "lookers" than "ponderers." Perhaps because of the overwhelming bombardment of media, we feel we have no time to ponder meaning. We have been acclimated to look for a shorthand of parameters, speed-read our way through images, make a surface evaluation and then move on. Meadow deserves so much more than that. It deserves to be a reclining area; in which cares are forgotten and the slow movement of the sun and the seasons be observed and weighed against the value of, say, a video game or an argument over a parking space.

I love this photo - elegant simplicity.

Well done Helen. You got the commenters going even if you didn't get their votes. I love the colours and feel.

I really like the emotion through the color and selective blur. Well done.

macro - yes it is close enough to be considered macro. HOwever, it lacks the focus and detail that one would expect to see here.

like a cool walk in a meadow on a summer's day -- one of my ribbon picks

I would have gotten more of the plant in focus

no. boring, looks like a pp blur. If it is, I have found that DPC does not reward those with pp effects if the photography skills are lacking. Or another way, you can not trick the trained eye of many here. But then again, I have been wrong in the past and would still find the photo bland.

I like this. It's like a watercolour painting, it's soft and dreamy

I just love how the pinks and greens flow into eachother. The main subject seems to be in the way. :) 8

Would have liked to see more in focus.

I had to stop and study this one. I really like the idea you are going after, but wish there are just a little bit more in focus area, not much, just a little.

Beautiful as an abstract or impressionist photo

Certainly is macro but unfortunately it really has no interest.

what is the subject here it would help to isolate somthing i see what you were trying but even that isnt in focus this would work if there was alot more color ir the backgroud turing it into a abstact color art

I really like this compositional idea...but, this lacks an overall "wow" factor. IMO, an in-focus capture of a complimentary color would have enhanced this, ie: one of the little flowers in bloom.

Not very clear. All I can see is 4 leaves? Maybe should have been more to this picture.

Niceley exposed. Good composition. The DOF leaves me wanting more though.

4 - I like this concept. More focus and closer cropping would be better.

Nice impressionistic look! I hope you don't get bombed for being artistic and having so little in focus. I like the light airiness of it. Composition, contrast, and color are great, and focus seems perfect for what I think you are doing here. Much luck to you!

What a pretty photo. I love how the green twig gradually comes out of the sea of soft greens and pinks.

Almost an abstraction with the very limited focus. I like the blend of color but, would have preferred a bit more focus or no focus at all.
