Not really, but he's a convenient model. The best light was about 3 minutes before this picture -the sun was setting- but everything from then looked even more posed than this.
Camera on a timer, sitting on another bench.

*Levels (to illuminate faces more, it was quite dark)
*Hue/Saturation (to darken back the now-washed-out sky, tone down the oddly over-saturated grass)
*Slight crop (eliminating stray branch pieces from top)

Thanks for your comments guys!

Regarding the lighting (or lack of it): this is actually a ton lighter than the original, we got out there a little too late, by the middle of the shoot (when this shot fell) the sun had pretty much set and we'd lost most of the good lighting (which was a gorgeous gold tint). Plus my camera's really bad with low light shots.

The decision here, as I shot it, was on the guy's end, not the girl's. Which is why I showed more of his face than hers. This is a pre-proposal shot, and the guy's thinking: Is this the right time to ask? Do I really want to spend the rest of my life with this person? Should I just take my hand out of my pocket and leave the ring? etc. etc.

Oh and the reason there's no obvious ring box is....well....we couldn't find one. College kids, apparently, don't keep them lying around.

Aaargh! I think you had the right concept, but the wrong moment. Shouldn't the girl have a ringbox in her hand with an expectant look on the guy's face as he awaits her Decision? Yeah, yeah... I know he's chosen her, but that's all background story. The big decision in this scene will be her Yes or No answer. No?

Lovely point of view, the colour is OK, but a bit dark so the details in the man's shirt and arm are lost..and I would have liked a bit more light on his face.

This is a decent image, but it seems pre proposal... thus the 5. I'd like to see a proposal image where the bride to be actually rejects the ring, because I think it would show a decision.. or if there were some emotion on her face of being happy. This was so close.

No words needed for this.

oOo very exciting. nice setting.

I like this idea, it's perfect for "decisions". However this picture feels kind of detached. Maybe you could get a closer shot and get some of the facial expressions. They both look pretty somber considering this is actually supposed to be a very happy/exciting moment.

Good concept. I would have preferred nicer lighting on his face, but I like it nonetheless.

Shadows, where is the Sun? If taken from the other side you would had a better light... I guess.

hope she said yes.
Good luck

Composition could have been improved by perhaps cropping out the unused part of the bench and tree. Also, the subjects may have been better lit by moving them so that their faces were lit by the sun. Otherwise a nice photo - a big decision! (Hope she said yes).
