A bite was taken out of an apple (quite delicious, by the way, truly a shame to waste it), a single chopstick was used to poke a hole, then an earthworm taken from a friend's garden was sacrificed and its body unceremoniously dumped into the apple. Brown sugar was used to brown the rim of the hole, and my friend held the apple while I took a tripod-mounted shot. We took a number of shots this way, getting everything I wanted just barely in time, as it started to rain.

Post-processing:
1) Import from RAW, contrast boosted, saturation slightly increased
2) Mild Noise Ninja (with the ISO100 settings, didn't really change anything)
3) Sharpen (smart sharpen 2.4 pixels, 100%)
4) Shadow/Highlight adjustment (20 point highlight reduction to reduce glare on the hand and reflection on the apple)
5) Resize
6) Mild resharpen (smart sharpen 0.6 pixels, 50%)
7) Save For Web, 95% jpg quality.

Nice to know that no animals were hurt or really harmed in the making of this picture. By using an earthworm, you chose an animal with remarkably few nerves. Earthworms also have extraordinary abilities in regeneration. In a week, the donator of that tip won't even remember his little incident and be none the worse for wear.

Well done on the picture too btw. I'm a huge fan of apples.

*SHUDDER* Definitely an emotive shot and well-composed. I truly feel for whoever bit that apple, because I had the same experience once... *SHUDDER*

Especially if that's half a worm

Creepy, I don't want to know how you got the worm in there. I think I would prefer this shot without the hand. Hands often look unnaturally cropped to me.

Is that a half a worm or a whole one? Great find.

Yum. lol not a good sign. I think a tighter crop although it would make some puke, would of been more affective, more impact. Maybe too much hand here.

I think it could be worse, say for example the worm was magic..and would have granted you three wishes, but alas.
