A playground in my neighborhood. It has been raining for at least five days. I'm trying out my new 10D and thought I'd see what the playground could offer.

COMPOSITION
The tight crop of this shot really helps to focus attention on the water drops, and it fills up the frame so that there is not a lot of extraneous "stuff" competing for attention.

TECHNIQUE
Your focus is very good, and you make good use of shallow depth of field. I think that if you were going to leave it in color, it needed something to make the photograph *spark* for the viewer. As it is, it looks like a bw picture with limited tonal range. Maybe you could have converted to bw and adjusted the contrast to give it even more interest. Or, maybe, you could have found another playground toy that was in color.

OVERALL EFFECT
I felt the grayness of the picture matched the weather conditions you were portraying, and it has sort of a lonesome feeling to it, much like an empty playground does sometimes.

Welcome to DPC, adn I wish you the best in future challenges.

I'm completely bummed this picture did not place higher. I would gladly trade places with you, because I love this picture that much! And thanks for pointing out that it's not a B&W I totally missed the fairly obvious bits of colour. Can't wait to see what your next entry will be.

I was really disappointed that this picture didn't score higher. What's the deal? This was by far my most favorite picture.

Thanks for the comments on this photo. This was my first entry on DP. For the few questions I got... Yes, it had been raining (it had just stopped, or I wouldn't have taken my brand new 10D out). No, this isn't B&W. If you look at the background you will see the coloring of the ground.

Thanks again

I like the emotion this photo has. The colors are grayish, and the horse has its head pointing down, it looks sad, so goes well with the rain theme

good texture

That is the most depressed piece of playground equipment I've ever seen. Did it really rain that day, or did you just hose it down and shoot in black and white to not give away the sunny day? Either way, the shot is great. 9 from me, for what it's worth.

I really like this photo, unusual subject and I think you framed it perfectly. The fact that it's raining/rained, and hence the playground would be deserted, is conveyed well in the B&W choice. That's the strong feeling I get from this photo. I do wonder if it did actually rain or if you added the water, the only reason I ask is the placement of the drops. That's just a curiosity on my part.

Good cropping and depiction of the after effects of rainy weather, good job.

This picture has kept moving up my score list as the day has gone on. It started out as an 8 and now it's at a 10 now that I'm done with all the photos. I scored it lower at first because I felt that it was a little dark and maybe cropped a little too close. But now I feel that the close crop is necessary. It wouldn't have the same "feel" and wouldn't show the great detail of the water drops which is the main feature in this photo. Above all, I like the fact that it's unique, well focused and meets the challenge head on. Very professional looking...you should score high. Hopefully, I'll see this in the top 3, if not first. Good luck!

interesting how we'd remember from childhood.
