The purple color is unusual in my limited aurora experience. This was only VERY faintly visible naked eye - I could tell that the green was supplemented with something a little darker - but the color came out very well on the camera - No green visible in this shot at all!

Wow! Very cool. We have interesting things visible in the sky in my area, too, but smog doesn't come in technicolor. ;-)
