Challenge: Silhouettes II (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
Location: Hafnarfjordur, Iceland
Date: May 13, 2005
Aperture: 4
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/160
Galleries: Urban, Portraiture
Date Uploaded: May 13, 2005

Probably my most photoshopped image to this date. Burned in a part of the asphalt directly underneath the pole because it was almost white. Cloned out a little bit of flare in the left part of the frame and in the right part a small part of the flash was showing so I cloned that out too. Used curves extensively to bring out some more contrast and therefore some more detail in the sky. The power lines really bug me about this shot and if I didn´t think that it was illegal in the advanced rules I would have removed them from the shot but what can you do.

Lit with a 550ex slightly out of the frame to the left to backlight him and a 420ex to the right to light up the basket itself. Triggered with a transmitter. Taken at 17mm.

The model is a fellow DPCer, Jokull.

This is fantastic. The sky, pose and hoodie (I think he's wearing a hoodie...) all just exude attitude.

technically awesome, although it feels as if the subject is falling out of the lower right of the image, to me at least.

I'd like to see a re-shoot of this, and perhaps with some more light (only a very little) revealing a little of the face and so on, but still keeping the dark mood you've created :-)

Great photo, as are your others! :)

Ég finn fyrir ólagandi hjartslætti Lárusar í þessari myndir... eitthvað sem segir mér að hann hafi tekið hana =) Virkilega töff, hefði verið vissulega betri án staursins.

Love the urban look to this. I gave it a 9. Definately one of my top 5. Nice work and good luck.

Unbelievable silhouette. I love the touches of color on his clothes. Love the attitude and definitely one of my favorites.

He looks like a thug with his hood up like that, but this picture is very atmospheric and technically perfect. Good job!

This may get hammered as "not a silhouette", but in my book it's one of the strongest, most visceral images in the challenge. Well done!

It's like the grim basketball player.I like the light on the side and the shaodwed front. Well done.

Excellent feel and tonality. I love the intensity of colors, the angle of shot, the general composition, the posture and background. Only nitpick would be the wires running in the background, and perhaps the poles supporting them. 10

Very cool... straight out of a magazine ad. Excellent processing, a definite style. Great composition as well, the sky lends alot to the scene as well as the grittyness of the props. Well Done. Had to come back and bump to a 10

Move your subject and camera angle slightly to get block out the phone poles in the background and this would be damn near perfect! You got detail elements in the background and a definate subject that is mysterious and brooding or daunting depending on what feeling you bring to the viewing. Nicely done!

Great concept. Love the side light. A little on the contrasty side, but I think it adds to the gritty feel of the photo.

May not be a 'real' silhouette but I don't care. It is brilliantly conceived and shot and one of my few tens.

AWESOME! very high impact image. I really like how you've use a strong side light to strongly define the foreground figure. It's not very noticeable, but the hoop is casting a shadow upward, which is sort of un-natural.

This is a very evocative shot! Really sets a mood! There may be some concern about the amount of light on the back of the subject, but nonetheless, I think this is a really well composed and well taken shot.

Absolutely love this. I like the fact you have punched in some over blown highlights and included some color. Great shot. Could have done without the power lines in the background, but that's the way it goes, still my favorite.

this is by far my favourite image in this contest, this is my favourite style all the way. it's that gritty, in your face, street style. I would've of had the hoop further to the left but it's still perfect the way it is. wow 10

NICE. I like the feel of this one. Kind of creepy. Looks like the Grim Reaper is
trying to challenge me to a game of B-Ball. He'd probably win. NIce Work - 8
I love the sky by the way, very cool.
