I've always wanted to try this effect, but haven't had a good subject before.
I cropped the original, desaturated all but the red colour channel and then changed the hue of the red channel slightly. Lastly I adjusted the contrast and brightness slightly.

Greetings fromt the Critique Club
Hi Martus!

Composition
I like the angle you chose for this composition. Did you try lower angles? This one does look like a normal, straight on, standing up shot - I wonder what else was available?

Color
The desat looks great - it left grey unnaturally in the skies and left some small color in the leaves - but I like the tactic and it worked well in this shot. With or without desat, this would have been a nice capture.

Contrast
I'm not sure if you toned UP the hue or toned it down, but I like it. I'm glad the red isn't faded til it's gone, but also glad it's not super super bright red. I like the contrast, but I think the skies were hit a bit too much.

Depth of field
I think that because of the large aperature (f2.8) here, the center of your shot (and center of the boat) is perfectly in focus - the shot rapidly loses focus near the edges and even the near end of the boat. If you tried an f5 or f7.1, perhaps your subject would have been wholly in focus?

Subject matter
I like the subject matter. I also chose a "weathered" weather shot - didn't do as well as yours! *smile* I like this shot because it draws me in with the leaves.

Overall
Overall, you can see with your other comments the areas that would benefit from improvement. The desat wasn't perfect for this shot, but it was ok. It's a busy image, but it grabs our attention.

Excellent work.

Nice approach to the challenge. Some odd stuff happening in the sky and around the trees in the background. Looks like you desaturated all but the red channel, and that this may have left the shot with some defects.

Interesting but very busy...still makes me want to stay and examine the entire scope of the image.

Very good. I think the colors could have been punched up a bit.

Great use of a different interpretation. This picture tells a story to me. Also, the desaturated colors work well.

Yep that boat is weathered! Nice find, and well shot. Desaturating all the colors except the reds wasn't really necessary, but it works here as well.

That's the first boat I've ever seen with a tree growing in it.

This is a picture that one enjoys the more you look at it. The details are excellent. The tree growing out of the rear section helps to tell the story of how long this boat has been sitting there. Excellent capture.

i like the tree growing in the boat. a slight boost in saturation might have made a nice red/grey contrast.
