This otter looked like a beat-up old guy (light head denotes age). I found out from a biologist friend of mine that it is a female in mating season. The males bite the female snout during mating. She has chosen a spot in the docks very near people to rest and groom. It will be interesting to watch her and her pup if she chooses to stay here.
I know it isn't an emotional expression on a person, but I felt her solitude till this cormerant popped up.
Shot with a polarizing filter.
bumped up the saturation and contrast some.
Did some dodging, burning, and cloning to clean up a little.

Quite an unusual and amazing image. The two critters and reflections keep me perusing the photo with satisfaction. A wall-hanger!

Minimalism challenge is <---- over there.

Just kidding.

great colour in the reflection and I love the ripples - almost didn't see the bird ! Almost a shame that the other object is there (is it an otter ?) - I wonder what the shot would've looked like without it & a fraction later when the bird had cleared the reflection of the towers but was still in the picture ? Nice try.

Nice waves and reflections, good saturated colors. The otter is a disturbing element IMHO.

bright blue is the wrong blue imo to try to portray sadness or loneliness. The colors make this seem like a happy scene to me.

Great photo, don't really get a lonely vibe from it though.

i really like the photo, i'm not getting 'lonely' out of it, but the lines and contrast between the vivid blue of the water and the reflected smoke stacks is really nice. A tighter cropping might help

Wow what an interesting image. I just love the blue ripple in the vibrant blue water. As for fitting the challenge I feel it is a bit outside of the box but is close enough for me. My biggest complaint would be that you are trying to portray lonelyness yet you have to animals in the shot. I would have leaned closer to beleiving freinds as a title. Wonderfull image but a little weak in fitting the challenge. Nice job.

I like the interplay of the ripples and the reflection. But can't help to think it would be a more effective image overall with a different crop. 7

Although I don’t say this is a bad picture I have scored this low.
Low in my book is not extremely low, but I guess there will be other people thinking the same way I do who don’t leave a comment.
Don’t take this the wrong way, this is my own opinion, and I am trying to let you understand what some voters may think.

In my opinion this does not meet the challenge, the description of the challenge: Take a picture that captures an emotion.
I looked hard, but I don’t see an emotion. This could be my fault, but that’s the reason why I voted lower as I would normaly do.

Cute title. the color is very nice but I feel......either one or the other but both are one too many. With the reflection it's just too busy over all. :)
