This is my first entry in the member's challenges and I'm a little afraid of how it will do.

Photo was cropped, resized, grayscaled, duotone, selective dodging and burning, selective blurring, and unsharp mask. I hope I followed all the rules and here goes nothing!

Nicely gritty, real feeling

I like the depth of field in this shot. The lighting from the window seems a little harsh at first....but after a moment it fits in perfectly with the mood of the shot. Well done.

The bit of grain and blur really add to this

The pose does a good job of communicating the intended mood. However, the soft focus, blush pillows and the elegant plant make this feel somewhat relaxing. Things would seem more overwhelming if he were framed by stacks of textbooks or there were collection notices on a table in front of him. Using harsher light to illuminate your model would have also given this a more on-edge feel. Rendering his surroundings somewhat out of focus is good, but if things seemed to be more chaotic (perhaps by zooming while the shutter is open) this would feel more overwhelming and less like a struggle between a peaceful environment and a stressed out model. You did a very nice job with the light here, it just fights with the mood you're trying to convey.

Awesome picture. Really powerful emotionally. This is really making the most of the artform to express the feeling.

a little too low contrast for me

Nice lighting, and i like that there is little to distract from the subject.

This is good...I like the pose next to the light from window; use of dof to only highlight the person. b&w was a very good choice .I think everyone can relate to that feeling...9

I know how he feels ! Definitely captures the mood - maybe too bright through the window, distracts a bit.

Lovely shot, would work better for me if the subject wasn't centered... perhaps more to the left of the frame. Love the light coming in through the window, as well as the plant.

This is really nice...very oppressive feel to it... the "murky" quality of the picture is perfect...excellent effect.

I like the soft black and white here. the shadow on the left side is a bit distracting, but the blown window and the light on the subject is nice, imho. Also, I'd have cropped the bottom a bit higher, to get rid of the bit of sofa peeking through on the lower right. 7

Nice B&W when I first looked I believed it was to grainy, but if you stop and look for a minute the mood improves. 8

Good feel to this shot, love the central focus and the light really adds to the over all mood and feel here. Nice job.8
