Very effective use of desat. Sets the mood just right. Great work and good luck! 10

I don;t really care for the selective desaturation in this case.

The contract between the B&W and colour is a good effect. Sets the mood nicely I think. The bright Yellow flowers is a good focal point too.

when i look at this i see the life in colour and the death in b&w. might be the only one who sees this but i like it a lot

Good use of selective desat, it really adds to it

good use of color and selective desaturation; I like the use of the umbrella which focuses our eyes to her face and at the same time blocks out extraneous background. Well done.

Selective desat works well here, although I'd have stood a tad higher to avoid including the washed out sky. Shame edge of umbrella is cropped off.

I think this picture would be better in full black and white...

This picture is is very moving and captures a lot of emotion. The yellow flowers were just the touch this picture needed. The all black clothing really sets the mood, and the umbrella adds a certain aspect of emotion to the picture! This picture is definitely a 10+

A little too much desaturation/saturation work here ruins the effect for me. The colors in her skin tones (especially the foot), are harsh and unnatural.. the bright flowers are anti-sorrowful, and the model almost looks like she's got a bit of a smile. Put these all together, and the only sorrow I feel from the subject is the fact that she has to lug around that umbrella.

Black and White back ground works very well with such a sad image

The addition of the umbrella was a nice touch - adds contrast to one of the focal points of your composition.

Great shot here. Only thing I would change is lighting on the foot and hand on the stone, possibly a bit sharper or in focus. 8.

Maybe the world should still be in color, and she has lost it, color that is. Maybe you tried that and it didn't look right. Maybe I don't have a clue what I'm talking about. Maybe I'll give you a 10, hmmmmmmm...................................................... , Maybe next time. Being Serious though, Excellent shot-setup, focus, light, effects. I give it a 9.

To me this looks much too contrived, the desaturation, the pose...it doesn't seem genuine...picture like this walk a very fine line, some may even find it offensive or mocking...you can't really fake "sorrow".

I think this would have more impact if the model was also desaturated .... just keep the flowers in color ....
05/02/2005 10:28:20 AM
If this was taken from a distance, and left to true color or all BW, then it would be believable... this is not. It feels very staged, and therefore leaves me with an odd distaste for the photo.

color in living and colorless for dead. nice. Wish the grass and leaves were also saturated. but nice thought.

good idea, could have benefitted from a little more space over the umbrella; as well, all inBW woould have been stronger IMO

Nice composition but bad cropping. Umbrella must be totally in the picture.

Something about the skin tones appears "off" a little. It also has a "staged" appearance.

great idea, IMO need to see a little more face to capture her expression more
