As always I waited until the last minute...and nearly ran out of black ink while printing out the paper people. Typical :)

Greetings from the Critique Club!
"Take a childhood game and run with it"

(OK, so it's not just limited to children...)

Composition:
Creativity was the strong point of this image Laura.
You recreated the fable of the sword in the stone in an interesting way and with a twist: Modern day scissors as a sword.
Your figures represented are well placed in the scene, as is the stone and the scissors. The challenge was met head-on, combining all 3 elements of the challenge. The main focal point in my opinion changes from initially being the figures to draw me in, to the handle on the scissors, which are placed well in a rule-of-thirds composition, as the figures then become secondary and become part of the background, no longer in competition with the scissors. Green foliage in the background works well here to add a sense of reality & dimension to the overall shot.

Lighting:
Lighting is fairly even overall. The foliage is not too dark and the rock is not too light, giving a balanced and neutral look and feel. You avoided any harsh shadows, which is an image killer, especially in a competition. Minor shadow on right character is detailed in the suggestions below.

Post-Processing:
You have a good handle on your post-processing in this picture. The main subjects all have a natural color, and overall the image is not over processed nor over saturated.

Suggestions/Improvements:
I think after studying this for a while, there are 2 areas that could have used improvement in my opinion. The rock in the foreground is out of focus and gives a viewer an unbalanced feel. Had the point of focus been a few inches closer, the depth of field could have fallen off at or right behind the 2 characters, while having the rock in focus. Had a higher f-stop been used, all the main elements could have been in focus.
The second item is the shadow cast across the upper portion of the right side character. If a fill-flash was not wanted, a reflective material could have been located nearby to cast a second, and even ligting source across the characters. Lighting is and always will be the biggest challenge a photographer will face.

In closing, I hope this was fun, which is the main purpose sometimes when we pick up a camera. We may feel silly setting up and shooting something like this (I get some odd looks from passerbys at times - LOL), but it's educational and should be fun in the process. I'm sure you put a smile on many voters with this shot.

I hope this was useful to you, and please feel free to contact me via PM if you have any questions regarding this critique or anything else relating to the site in general.

Regards,
Brad

Creative and I imagine time consuming to create but your DOF has left your scissors blurry and they should probably be the sharpest part of the image.

Why the narrow dop? I would like to see the scizzors razor sharp. no pun intended.

I had that idea too, but the decided for something else. Your DOF is too shallow: the scissors, which are an important element of the image, are out of focus. I like how the grass fits into the scale somehow. 7.

The shadow covering the face of the white knight works against you here. I think I would have preferred to see more regal looking scissors embedded in the stone, and shooting from a lower angle might offer a more interesting perspective.

what can I say great thought very original, photographically the shadows are the only thing I find that take away from it but great job.

lol
Gave you a 7 for creativity and effort. Although it is a clever and funny image, the scissors are out of focus and lack a bit of contrast.
Anyway, good job.
