Critique Club Comment:

Hi there,

I clicked my CC button and here it was, a voodoo doll, I hope that after this CC comment you are going to use it on me.

When the photo came up, I couldn’t see for what challenge it was so I scrolled down to discover it was for tacks.
I though, tacks? Where are the tacks. And after a while I found them.
So do you meet the challenge? YEAH! But I really had to search, took me about 30 seconds to figure out where they where.
As you know while voting most people give a photo about 2 seconds and if they don’t get it, or if it in their mind doesn’t fit the challenge they will vote low(er).
I think that that was your biggest problem, a lot of people just didn’t see the tacks.
Keep in mind that (as far as I have learned) the most important rule is to let the voter know immediately what you mean, and show them that your picture meets the challenge.
Even if your photo has some flaws, meeting the challenge and letting the voter understand your photo are (in my mind) the most important “rules” to remember.

OK, lets say that I saw your tacks immediately, would I have voted it high or low?
Well, I like the idea, it’s creative, it’s different from most other entry’s, it’s in focus (from the bottom 3th to the top) but I find the blown out candles to be more distracting then helping, I think if you had used a bit more light, so that the candles looked more like candles, that it might have worked better.
Please understand that this is just personal opinion.
All in all is it a nice picture, you didn’t score your highest score, then again it was a boring subject, and you made something out of it.

Keep up the good work.

Peter

This one is making me have a good laugh. I love the salt (?) and all that symbolism :-) The incense burner in the back probably should've been moved so as not to be directly behind the little voodoo doll.

Very cute. Great focus and the smoke really ads to the mystique. However, you may find that some of the voters might not find the tacks and penalize you for it. As an aside, you might have considered some other doll as this one does not seem to fit with the "Voodoo" norm. I do like the candles, but I found the flames could have been a tad more visible. Overall a great photo.

Scary! But there are no tacks in this image. ;) I am giving you a 10 just for the concept/setup. But, the lighting is excellent, as are the colors and focus. Well done! Remind me not to piss you off!
