An empty snail shell 1/2 inch in length. Taken 1 inch away using Quantary +3 close up filter. Snail shell sits on piece of glass with black project board underneath. GE Reveal 100 watt bulb used for lighting in clamp on light. Cropped, levels adjusted, and sharpened in PSE2. Neatimage used to clean up noise.

The negative space works for me, adding a sense of mystery to this shell. The fact that is is a bit off the photo makes it seem like nature is elusive and not to be understood in its beauty. well done.

Critique: a little too much of the sharpening tools used maybe? Background a little too absent of details or something for my eye to wander to based on how much is there relative to the subject. Subject might also be better put completely inside the frame of the image.

Praise: The detail brought out in the shell along with the lines and shadows are well captured.

I don't like the framing of this photo. The subject is worthy and the lighting is good, I just think a more conventional approach to this would've been preferred.

Good lighting and texture, but the composiition is off. I want to see the whole snail shell for full impact.
