OK you all deserve an explanation about what happened to this shot..

This shot was edited on a laptop due to me being away from home, I thought it was great and looked wonderful on THAT monitor, I was satisfied. After returning home and seeing it on my MAC I was HORRIFIED!! and I tried to repair it by the deadline and missed it due to the time difference.

Yeh i could of pulled the image out i guess but I didn't.

Thank you for all the comments they all helped (apart from 1 or 2 but its all good).

I think I blew the chance of a ribbon here but learned a valuable lesson.

Very nice picture, but too much paint filter.

this is a beautiful portrait by, in my opinion, way over processed. If you were going for a digital art look, then I think it is OK, but it is past the bounds of a photograph. That said, I love her expression and the lighting.

Oh wow! I only hate you because you have created a photo that trancends anything i can say. Beautiful model and everything, exposure, lighting, etc. are perfect. She shows a true sense of peace and happiness. Thanks for sharing this with the rest of us! A 10.

Lovely girl...would have prefered it to be less worked on.

very pretty but it seems a bit flat. i think a little more contrast would help.

I like the composition and light, but it looks like you've used some sort of art filter and I'd rather see it as a pure photograph. The filter just makes it look kind of muddy and it the fabric looks really wierd...the little spots are distracting.

This image has a great composition, however for me there seems to have been rather too much sharpening and neatimage used on the face

Really good clarity and tones.

Lovely capture but the over use of unsharpen mask has spoilt this a little for me.

Challenge: 10
Composition: 10 I like the filling of the frame with the subject and the off center composition.
Technical: 8 Just seems a little out of focus and maybe your were going for the soft focus but it seems just a tad out of focus due to the hair and facial features looking subtle.
Creativity: 10
Overall: 9

What a great image. I love the water on her scarf and the twinkle in her eye. Skin seems almost unreal thou, what's up with that?

The close-up composition is good. I'm not sure if a filter was used here or else excessive neatimage but the skin looks very odd as do the teeth and hair. There seems to be quite a number of jpg artifacts in the shot too.

Composition is great, but something went wrong (in my opinion) in the post-processing, unless it was what you were trying to acheive. Looks like a very heavy case of Neat Image (or similar). Thought it was due to compression, but at 148K shouldn't have been. Looks good from a distance only in my opinion. (5)

Great composition and idea. However, I am getting a lot of pixel noise on my monitor on her face. 5

Lovely model, but (and you'll hear loads of this no doubt) your image has been over effected by (probably) NeatImage or a clean-up filter. I'll ignore it now because that will have anihilated your score - but your composition is good the lighting is soft and defined, so all round a good photo.

Ultimately though this doesn't touch me emotionally, and I'm not certain what the photo is intended to do. There's not enough context to know about this lady and her expression does look a little forced, so your presence is very apparent. I'm not a major fan of the Librodo-style close-up, mainly because it tells so little about the person.

While eyes can be a 'window to the soul' they can seldom do the job unless the feelings conveyed are genuine. Authenticity is difficult to come by in this style of portrait. and the real masters of this technique are often photojournalists.

Beautiful expression and subject, but it the pixilation (smart-blur?) makes it seem artificial and steals the depth.

Nice photo, but you used way too much noise reduction.

I like the composition of this and the lovely coloring of the model and the way she is lit. However the image seems over processed to me. It seems over sharpened and filtered. I'd love to see the image without the processing.

There seems to be some digital artifact, very apparent in the hair and around the nose. Maybe too much denoise, oversharpened?

This is a beautifull picture, but, there's something you did in post-processing that makes i t looks too much like a painting. I think that there's too much details that has been lost, mainly around the eyes. Just my humble opinion.

I like the shot. The teeth are a bit distracting. Perhaps it would look better if you got rid of the hot spots and even whitened them a bit.

You had a brillant shot why destroy it with photoshop? My advice for what its worth, more camera less editing.

04/19/2005 06:15:50 AM
I like it a lot, but it suffers from very high pixelization. I don't know if it is on purpose or if it is from jpeg compression and it seem you've done also a lot of grain recuding that could be responsible for some or the angular look or some parts. But very nice composition and expression.

04/18/2005 06:18:45 AM
I think you'll get hammered for the processing in this shot- it is quite a bit overdone. That may have been the effect you were going for but I don't think it works in favor of this lovely subject- this would have been a wonderful portrait without the processing.

04/18/2005 03:29:08 AM
I think the expression on her face is quite lovely and the composition is very good. Then something went seriously wrong in the processing, which I suspect is far too much noise suppression which obliterated fine detail leaving a watercolor effect. I wonder how the original looks and would be interested in following up after the end of the challenge to compare the two.

Looks a bit like too much of ?filter. The smoothing is just bit too much. Her eyes are so pretty but overall this appears plastic. I love the scarf and the lighting.
