I think this is an excellent shot but i do not like the effect on the face. The softness works great for the background, but not for the face. Beautiful girl.

This shot should have scored much higher. Although I agree it could have been improved upon some by sharper eyes and trying to tone down the blown out areas it still is a beautiful portrait. I bet the Mom was very proud.

The soft focus on this is appealing. It might be just a bit too soft, though. To me, the picture would seem more complete if the top of her head hadn't been cropped off.

The softness is perfect. Very beautiful shot. Her mom will be so proud to disply this one. 10

i think the strong backlighting is really competing with your soft focus, and that it is really taking away from what could be a very lovely image. she is a doll. i think if you had cropped out the background completely, you'd probably have picked up a full point in the voting. as is, the bright background makes her face appear a bit too dark, and the background offers many competing elements.

I like the softening effect, but I like eyes that are clear and sharp.

Beautiful child. Just a hair too soft for my taste.

This would be so beautiful if it weren't so heavily post-processed. It looks like a combination of gaussian blur and neat image with blown highlights. If you could have taken this when the sun was lower, and used a subtle soft-focus or subtle gaussian blur it would feel more natural. Also, a soft fill flash, maybe -2/3 compensation would remove the shadows from the eyes.

Great use of lighting. I would like to see partial total focus in the face. Very nice. Good luck!

I love the soft look of portraits, but this one seems a bit over done. Someone this cute doesn't need the extra softening. 7

The colors are lovely, as is the model, and I love the backlighting of her hair. I'm afraid the extreme soft focus may hurt the final score, but since I've never ribboned I'm certainly no expert! LOL! I think if you'd kept the focus sharp on her features it would have helped.

Went a little too crazy with the soft focus, filter, NI, etc. Washed out her whole face. Otherwise good lighting & comp. Cute girl also, although she doesn't look thrilled. ;-)

The full frame composition is good and so is the use of the flowers as props. The soft focus technique can certainly be effective but as it is applied here I dont think it really works. The 'glow' has made several sections of the image overexposed, namely the ribbon in her hair and various spots in the background. The eyes are naturally draw to the lightest section of a photograph first and so these areas are where the viewer mostly notices. In the case of the ribbon this distracts from her face. Even though you want the face soft you still want to have the details sharp, namely her eyes. Creating the effect on a new layer allows you to use the eraser tool to delete the effect in certain areas and restoring the original sharpness. In this case her blue eyes would be greatly enhanced by having them sharp to engage the viewer.

Some people HATE soft focus. I like it very much, but only on certain pics. This one is perfect for it, in my opinion.
However, it would look even better if you re-sharpened certain parts of it, especially the eyes.
Nice effort, the backlighting is delightful.
