Challenge: Abandoned Buildings (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Lens: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
Location: Bolton Abby, Wharfedale
Date: Apr 6, 2005
Aperture: f/5.6
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/1600
Date Uploaded: Apr 8, 2005

I meant, I think, to find something a bit darker - in emotion, rather than luminance - for this challenge ... but then this presented itself whilst I was walking. Composed thus it very strongly references an image that a friend has on his wall, though that is of an active church. Whilst this is obviously abandoned, in actuality, being one of Wharfedale's bigger tourist attractions, it is rather carefully preserved, and in fact half of the building remains in use as a church.

RAW, processed with RSE, adding fill light to reduce intensities of contrast. In PSP careful curves work to reduce a bright spot in the clouds image left (fortunately the only area of frame of that intensity), and then selected yelows in hue/saturation and reduced brightness, bringing the foreground down to more restrained level - unfortunately that impacts the definition of the foreground daffodils, but that's what happens with these basic editing rules.

great shot...I actually would have like it more with a slightly less groomed yard...neat angle and love the dark clouds with sun on building face.

This is a nice iamge. I really like the angle from which you shot the image. I almost makes the building look out of proportion and it makes the building look as though it is the house of a giant. Nice work.

Excellent angle for this photo, but the lighting seems off, like a dullness rests upon the photo.

I don't think the border adds to this, especially with such a tight crop.

Beautiful angle and location. I see the sky was overcast, but it could still be a touch brighter with levels. But the dang shot is so good, its getting a good score from me.

Ohmygoodness!!!! This is stunning! Talk about making abandoned look beautiful!!!! Your angle is so interesting. The flowers in the foreground add so much interest and class to the picture, and then. . . your sky is perfect. Good luck for a ribbon :) 10

Awesome, there is a ceratin degree of eeriness about this pitcure, I guess it is the grey sky. The foreground yellow flowers add balance. Good luck, I hope you will score well (10)
