OK, this isn't "my" pet (and it's obviously NOT a dog). It's actually a rooster that the Buffalo & Erie County Botanical Gardens has, along with a number of other animals in a "baby zoo" behind their greenhouses. My real doggie died about 4 years ago.

This image was made with my Tamron 28-75, about 3 feet from the bird. After cropping for a 5X7 apect ratio, I selected everything but the eye and desaturated the yellow. Then I upped the saturation a bit to bring out the red a tad, followed by modest USM.

Then you never Matilda, my father's hen. Chickens and Roosters can actually make wonderful pets. Matilda would greet my father every morning when he went out to feed, sit on his arm as he gathered eggs and would actually nuzzle his ear! They are so much fun to watch!

A very good capture with great clarity and color. Bumping up.

Okay, I had to comment on the Chicken. My father raised these when I was growing up and we had one that was the meanest, nastiest rooster you would ever want to meet. You could kick that bugger clear across the yard and he'd come running back to fight again. He would even spur the car tires AS THE CAR WAS MOVING! He was nuts! It was shame he got killed when he tried to run ripshod over the geese and they chased him into their bathtub and piled in on top of him and drowned him, not that me and my sister sat there and watched them do it (we really hated that rooster but my dad wouldn't kill him).

Anyway, now that you have my story, here is my take on your little feathered friend here. First pass you got a 7 because I really didn't expect to see a chicken in here and the background threw me for some reason. Second pass, taking a little more time to look at it, the clarity, the lighting, the overall composition is there but something is still lacking, maybe it's the color, I see the reds but don't really feel them. And the darkness on the left side of the background bothers me just a bit, not sure why. But the long of the short of all this, since you read my whole story and did such a wonderful job capturing this feathered friend, I'm raising your score 2 points to a 9! :)

Well, it may not be a dog, but it's a great close-up anyway.
