This is the geographical Promontory Point, found on the tip of the Promontory Peninsula that fingers into the Great Salt Lake. The Promontory Point made famous by the completion of the transcontinental railroad is about 30 miles to the north, or behind me as I captured this.

A second railroad built later ran across the Great Salt Lake to this point. Called the Lucin Cutoff, it shortened rail traffic by a good 4-6 hours by cutting across the lake to this point and then on toward Ogden. The old trestle has been abandoned, replaced by a road bed of rock and gravel, and now the barge in the distance is one of the machines used to pull up the pilings to sell as expensive, and good quality, lumber.
