The Palmer Mausoleum, Graceland Cemetery Chicago

Who is Potter Palmer?
Potter Palmer was a real estate developer and one of the men who had a large hand in the reconstruction of downtown Chicago after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. I walk by the Palmer House Hotel everyday to work. He is buried in the visible stone sarcophagus nearest the pond. His wife Bertha Honore Palmer, who was a collector of Impressionist art, is buried beside him and their descendant are buried in the floor of the mausoleum surrouding them.

The shoot:
I entered the cemetery with camera in tow when security guard stopped me and asked me if that was a tripod I had attached to my pack. Apparently, I could take photos at the cemetery, but I would not be allowed to use a tripod or take video. I gladly offered to not use the tripod or return the tripod to my car parked outside the gate. He said was OK to bring the tripod in, just don't use it. I promised and kept my word.

There are a number of nice statues and mausoleums in this cemetery. So much so, that I wish I could have entered two or three entries. I chose this one since it was the most dramatic.

Then I went back on Sunday and reshot the same mausoleum, since, unlike the day before, the sky was partly cloudy. I thought I might be able to get some better contrast in the sky. I also cropped it a little different than the first submission to include the reflection in the water.

A bit flat and the perspective is off

I like this shot, I do wish there was less movement in the water to get a better reflection. However this is nice.

Looks unlevel. Straighten it and it is good.
