 this woman and her daughter were sitting on the ground inside one of those construction-scaffolding-sidewalk-bypasses.

By the way, may I suggest burning the objects in the background to focus attention on the Mother & Child? You can look at my version for comparisson...

I really like this photo, very emotional, and the B&W enhances that. I would suggest a slight increase in levels to brighten it up a bit. +fav
