I spent a couple hours at the park this afternoon. The weather was lovely. It was sunny with a light breeze and the temperature rose to 71 degrees late in the afternoon. It was quite refreshing for a mid-March afternoon in my part of the country. I like to sit on the park bench at the creek and just observe things going on around me. Since the weather was so nice today, there were a lot of people who had the same idea I did. There were lots of kids on the playground and lots of adults taking a quiet stroll.

As I sat on my bench watching the ducks and geese go by, I noticed this young lady across the creek from me standing on the elevated walkway through the marshy area of the park. She was just standing there, propped up against the railing in her own little world of daydreams.

I turned my camera vertical and photographed her reflection in the water to add a painterly effect to the image. The title comes from a recent movie I watched on TV called "Their Eyes Were Watching God" by Zora Hurston (an Oprah Winfrey movie production).

Post Processing:

THis was vastly underrated and probably because most people didn't look at it for long enough. I love how the eye is repeatedly tricked into thinking that sharp focus can be attained, when it can't, and the way the photo looks grey-green on first impression but the tonal light is hidden. I especially like the way the sky is distorted and it looks like palm trees above the subjects head.

altogether a very nice shot.

I thought this photo had been disqualified because I didn't see it among the top photos. I think it is the best photo in this challenge, I rated it highest with 9. It surely doesn't always fit here to submit creative photos like that, the dpc mass seems not have liked it as much as I do at least. Congrats on a great photo!

Yet another wonderful photo from you. It was one of my top rated photos. I am not going to comment on the way people see photos on this site....

Very abstract and surreal. I like it a lot! Hope other people can see the beauty in this shot. A good one to frame!

Interesting take on the challenge theme.

I may not get the title, but I certainly do like what you've done here. I'm not even seeing the lines thing as being so relevant..yet..yet when someone shoots something that really "speaks" to me, all I can say is "yeah...this is something".
yeah this is something...

almost looks like a lake reflection. i like the green tone here.. esp. cuz it's st. patty's day! in all seriousness, it does add a sense of intrigue here for me.

Water reflection? Dreamy

I'm going to give you a 10 because this is obviously intentional and it is nicely artistic.

really great effect, great processing, bad model (the pose at least). In my best Brando voice..."It coulda been a contenda!"

Looks like a great shot for 'surreal' not so sure about 'lines'
Interesting photo though.

i like it but it may be too subtle for most

I think this would be a better picture if it were of the girl, instead of the reflection thereof. Good effort though.

This is my second blur effect photo and I just enjoy clear focus over abstract. Sometimes I surprise myself in liking them but not this time. Exellent light, shadow and reflexion. Seeing is believing and I have to "leap of faith" and vote on gut instinct rather than on the visual. I pray you get better than my 4.

I see the feeling you are going for..but perhaps a little less "wavy-ness" might have made the lines a bit more defined

don't get it for lines
