If you've read my profile, you already know that I'm a nut for my pets, and will tie them into submission photos whenever appropriate. Here you meet Spargel, my seven-month-old parrot. The idea was to make him look out of place as an oversized South American bird in a culturally American-looking childrens' bedroom.

To accomplish the set-up, I simply put him in my dollhouse (I'm in the process of refurbishing it; so far only the nursery is complete), and shot several frames. This turned out to be the only shot in which he hadn't yet climed off the bed and was stubbornly a centimeter from the camera, pecking at the swinging lens cap.

I used a flash, as well as a lamp positioned beside me for lighting.

In Photoshop, I adjusted the tones, mostly to dull down the reds a bit, toyed a bit with the brightness and contrast, and cropped it down.

Feels like this has a yellow cast that might best be removed

Great subject matter let down by poor lighting/ exposure. Even given the subject matter there seems to be a strong yellow colour cast. Excellent idea though and makes me smile to look at it. 7

Now this is wierd! I went 'WHAT THE F***' when i opened this up, and that tells me you suceeded in surrealism. Unfortunatly, i really don't like the lighting, which is way too green and takes away from the model of the shot. Also the lighting is too strong and washs the whole set. Composition could've been slightly better as well but overall, pretty good. 5

this pic made me chuckle, great idea :) however the yellow/green tones are a bit overly done.

Very cute. A better quality image would have given this entry a sharper edge in the challenge. However, as id you still get credit for a good sense of humor and a good composition. 6

Cute. It looks like there is a yellow color cast to the photo, though, that I would have fixed.

Not a bad idea though the image is grainy, over exposed and has a slight yellow-cast.

Not bad... just bit overexposed.

This is one of the few photos I think fits the definition of surreal, but unfortunately you've got a lot of bright, over-exposed areas, and a lot of noise in the photo that I doubt you intended to be there.

So - did that thing eat your kid? ;-) Nice job - could use less green in the room though.

I love this photo. Its a bit grainy. If you haven't run it through neatimage, you should. Very creative. 9! Unless, of course, you want grainy, but I'm a clean image fanatic.

my god, I laughed my you know what off!!! While the technical aspects of the shot could be improved, this is very original and quite possibly the funniest shot I've seen yet. 9

a little grainy with a yellow cast. I would have rated it higher with those two problems fixed. 7 for the creativity.

It's a fun shot that reminds me of Kafka's Metamorphosis. I dislike the strong green cast, and the fact that pretty much everything seems out of focus.
