 The original concept for this picture was sketching. I wanted to make an image that staddled the visual line between a sketch and a photograph. I decided that the best way to do it would be to photograph something white, which of course could blend with the background if it was bright enough, yet stand out if a shadow was cast onto it. Essentially, I just lit the backdrop, taking care to flag the light so that none of it accidentally spilled onto the foreground. Next I lit the egg from about 30 degrees from the left side. On the opposite side I set up a black VHS tape (I'm really ghetto when it comes to ALL my gear)which helped absorb light and thus cause a darker shadow on the right side. I then set up another black VHS tape on the left side of the egg in oder to create a shadow on the eggs left side. When the photo was taken, these carefully placed shadows appear to be pencil sketch marks; particularly because of the top of the egg, which was purposfully left in the light in order to create a section of the photo where the foreground and background become one. This little bridge goes a long way in helping complete the illusion. Other than a resize for the competition, NO EDITING whatsoever (just the way it should be!).

Background is white, but the egg is too blown out.

sorry but the challenge called for light colors, and the bottom of the egg is cut-off, not my kind of composition

I like it but it's a pitty we don't see the whole egg ....
