Result of my first ever attempts at a self portrait, looks like i'm taking it all to seriously, but I was having fun honest

Slight level's sharpening, increased saturation to eye's, little dodge and burn and cloned out a little stray light, resize and usm

Honest, complete and to the point of the challenge. The focus is on the spot and the lighting brings out the form to good advantage along with the dark background. Bumping up.

i don't know anything about portraiture, so i'm using your image to try to figure out what i think i would or wouldn't do in this situation, as well as what i notice and get out of your image.

killer job with the lighting! that piercing gaze is just INTENSE. if the art of portraiture is capturing the essence of the individual, i would have to say you've succeeded. the lighting, focus, composition, colors, and expression all come together to make a very powerful image. great work. good luck!

I love the lights and shadows.
Just one little thing that bothers me a bit: your left eye (my right) looks a bit too bright in the shadows, which make it look quite spooky, like it's a glass or something. Other then that a good portrait.

Composition: 4
Technical: 4, I like the tiny eyespot on your left eye, but I think a little more light (from a reflector maybe) to show just a little structure on the left side of your face would help
Appeal: 4, This harsh lighting might also look interesting with a different crop; possibly moving the dark side of your face mostly off the right side of the shot, and leave more black on the left half of the image
