july, 2002
we had just moved into our little home in the woods, and were in the final throws of cleaning out our old home. i had gone to the Home Depot to get a few odds and ends. as it was lunch time, i decided to go on and grab a hot dog from their in-store vendor and sit out at the patio furniture they had out front.
while sitting there, a couple boys who looked to be about 10 years old walked up with a german sheppard puppy. they were so excited about it and proudly showing it off. one boy was standing right in front of me, which incidentally blocked my view of the parking lot. as i was paying attention to the dog, i barely noticed a car cruising very, very slowing past the front of the store.
then the boy bent over to pet his dog. and when he did, i saw right out in the main drive a little ball of fur the size of a beer can! it had been thrown/dropped/whatever out of that slow-rolling car!!
i dashed out into the parking lot and scooped up the kitten. the car was gone. i was livid! this kitten barely had it's eyes open.
on my way back into the store to get a box, i called my wife and asked her, "Just how alergic to cats are you?" without missing a beat, she responded, "I guess we're going to find out. What's going on?"
well, that's how striper came to live with us. he was so small, and so scared. it took him a while to get adjusted, but now, two years later, he pretty much runs the joint.

Awwwww, so cute! I can't believe some people. I feel bad when my cats have to spend the night in my parents' fully furnished and well-heated basement! |
