the summer before my daughter started kindergarden, we told her to pick a place for a last big trip. she immediately exclaimed that she wanted to go see the Statue of Liberty! so, in early august, we made a trip up to nyc.
we arrived in manhatten on friday afternoon, and after checking into our hotel, went wandering around lower manhatten without any real plans. somehow, we wound up at the food court up at the top of the World Trade Centers. after dinner, my daughter and i went up to the roof.
when i took this picture, all i could think was, "5 Years Old, and On Top of the World!"
things have changed so much for all of us in so many ways. the next time we go back to the city, it will be much different. it will be a great trip, a family trip, and it is something we are looking forward to. but, all the same, as we get ready to go, we know that it will be different, and that there will be some things that we will have to pause to remember.

This shot is a testament. I'm a private pilot, I and have video going past Manhattan in August 2001 level with the tops of the towers. Wonder if you were up there when I went by? Never expected that footage to be historic only a month later.
Can you imagine what it must be like for people that stood on that same spot on September 10, 2001? For certain this is a keeper image. On a personal note I was in that spot in the early 80's and had walked thru the WTC lobby area dozens of times thru the 90's (corporate office at 233 Broadway). Haven't been back since pre 9-11, I know it will be a shock to see such a change to what was a familiar landscape.
Thanks for sharing this - and bringing it back to the surface.
