This natural numbers challenge was extremely difficult. We spent all week looking at trees and natural textures with no luck. This shot was taken without thinking of the challenge, but my wife noticed the 3 created witht the duck's neck and head, with reflection.

Critique Club:

Meeting the Challenge: Excellent, takes no time to see the number and it couldn't meet the "natural" component any better!

Composition: Even though the duck's head is centered, the rest of the photo lends balance to it and you do not get a boring symmetrical look. The tight crop helps to emphasize your subject well.

Technical Quality: Photographing wildlife is very difficult, so some flaws in this area would be difficult to avoid. I would have personally liked to have seen the duck better lit and the background not so black, although I don't think it could be done with this photo as the light rocks (I am assuming they are rocks) would have been blown out. The other option would have been to try to get this shot completely done with only water in the background maybe on a cloudier day so the light would have been softer. The desaturation helps draw the eye to the duck's head.

Creativity: Isn't it nice that sometimes our eyes are fooled by what we see. Even though you didn't intend this to be your numbers entry, you caught the shape when you processed the photo, well done!! No duplicate entries seen and a very nice photo to enter.

General Conclusion: Overall a good picture, maybe better lighting and background next time around. This was one of my top pics last week in this challenge despite the few flaws.

If you have questions, please feel free to email me. Thanks for allowing me to critque your shot.

The coloring on this shot really adds interest I think. I also like the vertical crop.

That's a really original idea and a nice photograph. It must have taken some time to get just the right angle.

This is pretty good, but needs a little better focus. The lack of color makes it seem a little morbid though.

You are a clever one! This is a great photo for the challenge. A little more light on the duck's face and it would be perfect.

I like the shot and border. The three takes some convincing, though. How did you affect the black and white back ground while maintaining the color in the duck?
