Challenge: Breaking New Ground (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Canon EF 28-135mm F/3.5-5.6 IS USM
Location: home office
Date: Jan 18, 2005
Aperture: 13
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/60
Galleries: Black and White, Political
Date Uploaded: Jan 18, 2005

Gear = Canon 28-135 IS USM; Canon 420EX flash; remote switch; Bogen 3021BPro tripod with 322RC2 head

8.5x11 photos of the 4x6 USA flag were printed in B&W and color. The B&W photo served as my background. The color photo became a template for the magnifying glass; I cut a circle out of the color photo and glued it to the back of the magnifying glass. The (extremely) hard part was playing with the distances from the camera to the magnifying glass to the B&W background photo and get a convincing pic.

I really like the color image as well, but because this was a Basic Challenge, I wanted to make it appear that I used advanced post-editing rules.

Hope everyone enjoys it; I had fun thinking about this one.

I can see your reflection. Was this intentional? Cool idea though.

Nice idea, but not so innovative (to me that is :D )

Would like to have seen the main flag in focus too as this makes it look like it's stuck to the magnifying glass, but i am presuming you wanted it blured. Good overall. 6

Lemme guess... you stuck a printed circular piece of paper to the back of the magnifying glass, right? Intriguing...

for a minute there I thought "Ha ?"
But then the illusion disappeared - the photo in the glass is not bent as it should with a magnifying glass.
Good work never the less.

Nice idea but somehow I don't believe that's really a lens magnified image. Looks more like a print-out stuck on the back of the magnifying glass. It's the lack of refraction at the sides that makes it look that way. A good idea but -1 for choosing the stars and stripes again. Cliche now for me. 8

cool! the slective desat works very well here as well. I tried something like this a while ago and I couldnt get the focus through the magnifying glass very well. so congrats for that. 8
