This is Dara... although it is not my first pick for this challenge; not necessarily my BEST of 2004, I like it a lot. My first entry was not legal in editing as I had cloned out a major element... either way, I like this a lot!

This was the best of your series I think. For me, the reason has mostly to do with the lighting of the face and the eyes. I think in a portrait the eyes are so important. This has a nice, natural feel to it, and the emphasis is on her face. Very nice job.

Beautiful shot, the b&w is perfect, adds mood to the shot I think...
I also commented on the original version of this shot, but this one is tons better than that one...the processing is very nice and you've highlighted her eyes perfectly. This is great!

Very nice. In any other challenge may well have ribboned. The texture of the bark and her hair is cool, the tonal range across the shot is good. The subject is great, the look on her eyes the earring and the expression generally hint at something deeper than a simple portrait. Lovely take. I'm honoured that someone with your obvious talent liked my photo. Added you as a fave.

I love black and white done this way.
How did you do it ? Using the BW setting on the camera?
Or in software ?
I'd love to know.
A really good pic.

Nice capture- her expression really tells a bit of a story, which always makes a photo more interesting. I like the composition.

She's still pretty, and this one is one of the best of her I've seen. Well done. 9

I like this, though I'd perhaps try a portrait orientation. All the elements flow vertically, and the background doesn't add much here.

Excellent portrait. I really like the use of black and white, and the motion or flow displayed by the hair.

An awesome portrait! Perfectly lit, with emphasis on the face. Shallow DOF works well with perfect sharpness where it is needed. And how about those eyes???? Good luck in the challenge!

Beautiful moody look, a very nice shot, I think I would like to see some of the negative space on the right side cropped off. Very nice in B&W, and you have a wonderful model.

Very nicely handled..this would look impressive sitting on a table in a frame.
The B/W approach was a good choice.

Really terrific image. The pose and facial expression combines with the windswept hair to lend this shot a feeling of authenticity sorely lacking in many of the portrait shots you see around. Really like the black and white treatment. All in all I can see why you chose this as your best of the year. Well done, 9.
