You'd think that in the middle of winter, that we would be spared from the weeds, but not in Dallas. Today while taking down my Christmas lights I came across two of these little pests in my yard. Although a nice addition of color during this otherwise dead season, I can't help but think that it is only a sign of how many of these I'll have to fend off come spring.

Eye of the beholder, to some, it's a pretty little flower, to others, it's a pest that has invaded their lawn.

what i like about this shot is the little bits of stringy sharp bits on the top of the flower. I really do not think the border adds much too your shot. I also think this shot would be incredible and very dramatic with a black background, tho the blue is a creative choice and unique choice.

The flower almost appears to glow. The completely neutral background other than the tip of the vase is brilliant. Very nice job!

I love it how the strong, warm yellow/orange saturated flower pops out of the soft cool background.
The spot on the vase that shines pretty bright is distracting, it might tell something about bokeh, but it breaks the soft eveness of the background. 10 anyway. :)

I like the way the orange/yellow stands out against the blue/grey background. Also well executed bokeh.

Great lighting. Looks anything but dormant, though!

The short definition of Bokeh from KenRockwell.com, which I am using for voting on this challenge: "Bokeh describes the rendition of out-of-focus points of light." Check, Is the subject enhanced by the bokeh of the background? Definitely. Well done, crabappl ;)

Not a lot of bokeh to this, just a cluster of them near the bottom. Strange, eerie colors. Effective frame. As an aside, I'd question whether this dandelion is really "dormant", but that's neither here nor there. Nicely composed and lit.

I like this image a lot but don't know that the blurred areas of the image add that much impact for me or wow me with their aesthetic. Certainly I do think that the shallow DOF background works well for the image and I also like the little bit of detail and reflection on the container but - the shapes and colours of the background don't thrill me. There's also something weird about the luminous nature of the dandelion head - something about the lighting perhaps that looks odd to me. I voted this a 6.
