Lucy walked this dark corridor every night, but something felt wrong this time, like other steps were echoing her own. But every time she looked around, she saw nothing.
"Hello?" a weak hello echoed back, as if from another world. She never noticed this echo before. Maybe she just needed to pay more attention to her life. Maybe then she would...
"hello..." another, even quieter, hello. She couldn't quite tell where it was from. She didn't say a word, listening instead.
Our footsteps echoed. Lights glared down, yet only illuminated bits of brick and turned columns. Was that a window in the distance? A traffic cone? Were we about to re-enter civilization? I'd lost count of the days, but it was easily weeks since we'd entered this alley-reality. Perhaps our captors, the giant feral felines, were finally going to allow us our freedom.
Damien walked for 20 minutes or so, looking only at the ground beneath him, down the long corridor, casting shadows behind him. There was light, though faint but enough to guide him, and he could finally see an opening ahead.... to be continued in the next episode.....
It was 11:13pm. I was told to meet my contact at 11 and he hadn't shown up yet. Nervousness and panic set in. Was my cover blown? Were they onto us? Was I at the wrong location? I pulled out my phone and quickly checked. I let out a sigh of relief, followed by a self-inflicted slap on the forehead. I was at the wrong location. 😖
