Very cool clouds. Great contrast here. While the difference in grey tones between the sky and sand is otherworldly, I am not sure it works for me.

Captain Rudolfo stumbled out of his space capsule and kissed the ground. He had been rocketing through hyperspace for over 5 years, utterly lost. But now, finally, his automated navigation systems had discovered a planet. And what a beautiful planet it was. Sure there was an emptiness to it, but also texture and depth and ... feeling.

His reverie continued until he was interrupted by a sound behind him. Was that... talking?

"'Scuse me, sir, you can't pahk heah..."

Damn it, this was Maine.

Venus landing not encouraging. Barren landscape. Noxious atmosphere. Better head to Mars before we succomb.

Walking carefully into what used to be a lush pasture, they saw the charred wasteland and they knew the giant creature had recently been there. In the distance, they heard the screeching roar that was Godzilla's horrifying warning to all.

There was once a man who learned to jump, higher than anyone thought possible. One day he catapulted himself up into the sky, higher and higher he went.. until he found himself swept up by a cloud of dust. He was carried for quite sometime before the dust descended and he was deposited onto a barren land, covered in black sand. As he landed, the sand began to shake, and pulse and then he was picked up again ... as if the clouds were a magic carpet. He looked back to see where he had landed but couldn't tell. He tried holding his breath and counting backwards from 100 and it worked.... He was gently set back on earth, left wondering what had happened. Was it a dream or are we now closer to finding life on another planet?

This would be powerful if you don't have two different unnatural colors. The ground is blue gray and the sky is sepia. make it all black and white - like ansel adams and this can pop.

I can see this as a cover on a science fiction novel from the 1980s. Very cool.
